Almost Everyone in this era has an Android in their hands. It’s an essential device to search info online. It’s very portable and lightweight. You can do almost anything with a modern smartphone or tablet. But, before browsing the internet, you need a browser. Every smartphone has a browser built-in like Browser, Chrome, etc. But, do you know what other browsers you may use to browse the web safely?
Browser is an application that helps you to browse the internet. But not all of them are equally efficient. I have chosen the following Top Browsers For Android that will increase your browsing experience on your Android device.
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Brave Browser
- Opera with free VPN
- Firefox Lite
- Opera Mini
Best Browsers For Android In 2019
If I want to give the “Best Browser” title to any particular browser, then it will be tough for me. I have used twenty browsers available in Google Play and choose ten browsers that I think will serve the best browsing experience. I have tested these as my daily browser and find the following results. So let’s begin, shall we?
Google Chrome, a popular web browser in the market. When it comes to a good web browser, Google Chrome hits first. Many people have this pre-installed on their Android Devices and become using it without finding any other alternatives.
It’s a Google Product
It has excellent integration with other Google products. No matter which device you use, Google Chrome will automatically sync your bookmarks, passwords, and settings. All you need to do is to connect every device with the same Google account. The syncing capability of Chrome throughout all the devices is excellent.
Chrome has a beautiful and slick material design layout. Its user interface is user-friendly and straightforward. You can easily navigate the app and find what you need. The settings are natural and straight forward. Just tap on the vertical three dots on the upper right corner and tap on settings. Here you will find all the necessary settings and can change them with your taste.
Private Browsing (Incognito Mode)
Google Chrome has in-built Incognito Mode. It helps you to browse the web without storing any history, cache, or cookies in the device. However, it will not make you completely anonymous on the internet. Your ISP and other websites that you visit can track you.
Google Chrome is a highly secure web browser currently available in the market. It can prevent you from various infected websites, malware, and block pop-ups. When you browse a non-HTTPS site, Chrome will show this sign indicating that this website is not secure and not using HTTPS encryption. Any sensitive information like personal info or credit card info can be compromised if you use any. So it will help you not to use any confidential information.
Chrome has not a good reputation when it comes to privacy. Chrome has been fined many times from European countries for processing information without the user’s concern. When you log in to Chrome and sync all your browsing activities, you give all the power to Google to use your data. If you think much about your privacy, then Chrome may not have a good fit for you.
Though it has some privacy issues, without any doubt, it is the most used and popular web browser on every platform, including Android.
2. Microsoft Edge
If any browser that is currently competing with Google Chrome, it is the Microsoft Edge. Edge was released first for Windows 10 and Xbox One in 2015, then for Android and iOS in 2017 and macOS in 2019. Edge is now becoming famous for faster processing and slick design. It has a nice and clean user interface. Everything is well organized, and you can navigate the browser quickly.
It’s a Microsoft Product
Edge has excellent integration with Windows 10 and uses the Microsoft account to sync with other devices. Windows is the dominant player in the computer world. In April 2019, Windows had a desktop market share of 79.24%. As Windows is the leading desktop operating system, using Edge is making more sense.
When it comes to design, Edge is one step ahead. It has a clean user interface to navigate the app easily. I like the bottom panel to go back and forward, accessing the menu, and managing tabs. It helps a lot because you don’t need to go all the way up to access the list. You can use this app one-handedly.
Edge is fast. You can’t tell until you use it. When I first started using Edge, I was thrilled by its speed. I did not expect much from Edge, but it proved me wrong. The rendering was exquisite, speedy, and the overall experience was terrific. It performed beyond my expectations.
Edge has inPrivate mode that helps you to browse the web without storing any data on the device. It is an essential feature for a modern web browser, and Edge is performing very well in this sector.
Microsoft Edge is the fast, safe web browser that gives you one continuous browsing experience. It blocks unwanted pop-ups, Infected Websites, and malware. It uses AdBlock Plus to block unwanted ads. This feature helps you to browse the web without interacting with unwanted ads and also helps to load a page faster.
Nowadays, Windows 10 is not in a good position for privacy issues. As Microsoft Edge is highly integrated with Windows 10, it may be possible that your data can be sent from your PC. But this is not much of a deal-breaker as most of us using Microsoft products with this risk.
It is an excellent browser with modern features. It is a fast, secure, and easy-to-use web browser though it has some privacy issue. But If you do not give that much attention to your privacy, then it will be ok to use Microsoft Edge.
Everyone knows about Firefox. It is the 2nd most popular web browser in the desktop world. Firefox is a free and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, Mozilla Corporation.
Firefox is a fast and the most dominant browser in the market. It is faster than Google Chrome and outperforms Opera by a significant margin. There is faster browser available in Android like UC Browser, but the security concerns around UC Browser far outweigh any speed gains you may see.
Design and Features
Firefox gives you a lot of control over the cache, the browsing history, cookies, and downloaded files. It also enables you to clear entire private data with one single tap. There is a pop-up blocker enabled by default, but you can deactivate it in the settings. If you want to sync your activities with Android, then sign in using your Firefox account. It will bring all your bookmarks, passwords, and other data to your Android device. Firefox has a built-in Private Browsing mode that enables you to browse the web without storing any history, cookies, and cache. It also helps you from being tracked.
It’s Secure and Open Source
As it is free and open-source, it cares your privacy more than Chrome and Edge. Firefox anti-tracking feature prevents you from being tracked by third-party organizations. Tracking slows down the browser as it exchanges data during browsing. By blocking trackers makes it faster and secure at the same time. Tracking Protection is enabled by default in Private Browsing, but you can enable it in normal browsing mode by enabling Do Not Track option in the settings.
If you want an all-round performer, then you can choose Firefox. It is a fast, reliable, and secure web browser with more control over your online activities.
4. Brave Browser
Brave Browser is a new fish in the pond. It first came in 2016 with a variety of features. It is an open-source web browser based on Chromium. Brave offers a clean and crisp user interface that is reasonably intuitive to use, with all of the elements you can expect in a browser.
Brave is an extremely lightweight, highly optimized for speed and battery life improvements. It uses less RAM and system resources, while other browsers use more. Brave has all the necessary features that a modern browser has with extra privacy control. And This is a big deal.
Brave’s business model is entirely different from others. They block ads and trackers more than any browser. But the company acknowledges that blocking ads starves websites and content creators. So they come up with an exciting way to make money. You can sign up for Brave Rewards program and earn BAT tokens for viewing ads that Brave wants to show instead of the ads that the website are naturally displaying.
When you sign up for their reward program, you will have the option of giving a portion of the ad revenue from the ads Brave is showing you to the websites you visit the most. You can also earn tokens for yourself which you can use as “tip” for the websites of your choice.
Security and Privacy
Brave’s primary focus is to ensure the user’s privacy. It has built-in Ad-Blocker, HTTPS Everywhere, Fingerprint Protection, and Tracking Protection. It also blocks third-party cookies, and scripts for extra protection. These features make Brave a well-secured web browser.
Brave is a very safe, fast, and stable browser that blocks ads and trackers and makes users more anonymous online. However, its strategy to ad-blocking and the opt-in for the Brave Rewards program are opening eyes in the world of internet browsing. Only time will say if this strategy will have long-term momentum.
5. Opera with free VPN
Opera, a well-known face in the browser world. There is no doubt that Opera was the most dominant web browser in the mobile industry. Opera was the love for all mobile users. Today, it also serves the best as it was doing before. Opera is fast, feature-rich, and user-friendly web browser. Fun fact is that it has a VPN built-in within the browser. But it only works with Opera itself. It is not a system-wide VPN.
Opera has a slick design that does not match any other web browsers. Its design flow makes it easier than others. Opera has built-in AdBlocker, free unlimited VPN, Night Mode, and Private Browsing options. There are lots of customization options available in the settings menu. You can change the Homepage Icon Size, Enable/Disable Night Mode, Theme and App Layout in Appearance, Change the Download Folder, and so on.
Security with VPN
Opera is a secure web browser. As it blocks ads and trackers, web pages load much faster. And it helps you not to tracked by third-party organizations. You can use it’s VPN in normal browsing or private browsing mode. Using the VPN in private browsing will make you more secure from being tracked. Though it’s built-in VPN is not a pure VPN, but it uses Proxy to hide your IP or replace with a virtual one to make you anonymous on the web.
Opera’s VPN is the easiest VPN in the market to use. If you want a browser that has all the necessary features and some extra like a VPN, then you should try Opera Browser. Though it is not a pure VPN, But you can easily connect and browse without any limitation to do the job done. If you want a complete VPN service, then you should go for other VPNs available on the market.
6. Firefox Lite
Firefox Lite, a lightweight version of Firefox. It is a speedy and easy-to-use web browser for Android. It is only 4MB in size and has all the basic features of a modern web browser.
The first thing I noticed after installing Firefox Lite is the user interface. It is beautiful, clean, and all the controls are located at the bottom of the screen. This makes the navigation easy to use, especially for the big screen devices.
Though Firefox Lite is small in size, it has all the essential features including Night Mode, Turbo Mode, Block Images, Private Tab, and Clear Cache. It is a great web browser for low-end devices with smaller storage capacity.
I like this browser. Especially these four features:
- Turbo Mode
- Night Mode
- Block Images
- Private Tab
Turbo Mode gives you a boost by saving data and process the web page faster. It reduces data size and saves you money if you are in a limited data plan.
Night Mode makes the upper and bottom part dark and reduces the brightness to put a low strain on the eyes. You can adjust the brightness as you want. Not a significant feature but comes handy in some cases.
Block Images is a simple feature that turns off the images of a page. If you do not care about the pictures and want to load pages faster, then this is a great option. It is also helpful when you use a limited data plan, and you are running out of data. You can get the info you want without wasting more data.
Firefox Lite is an excellent web browser. It is lightweight in size as well as in system resources. I like this browser, and it is installed on my phone. If you are running a low or mid-range device, then I recommend you to try this.
7. Opera Mini
We all know about Opera Mini very well. It is the oldest browser for mobile devices. Opera Mini is a browser that can save you Gigs of data or money. Yes! It can reduce your cost at the highest level. If you are on a limited data plan or pay as you go, then Opera Mini is for you.
It is incredibly lightweight and has all the basic features of a modern web browser. Opera Mini comes with a clean and minimalistic user interface. It is easy to navigate and very much the same as Opera VPN. It has built-in Private Mode, AdBlocker, Night Mode, App Layout, Fullscreen Mode, Data Saving, and Themes. Theme option has six different colors Red, Green, blue, Purple, Gray, and Black. These color options give this browser a new look and feel.
I like Opera Mini very much because of its high data-saving rate. Its built-in AdBlocker is strong enough to block most of the ads, saves data, and loads the pages faster. Unwanted ads are annoying and make a page heavy to load. It hampers the browsing experience. If you visit pages that are bloated with ads, turning AdBlocker on will save you time and money.
If you are on a tight budget and want to browse the web at a minimum cost, then Opera Mini can help. Though it’s high and extreme data saving will cost the quality of a page. Extreme data saving breaks the CSS of a web page that saves data and loads the page faster. You can set the Image Quality in the Data Saving option. In extreme mode, you can turn off the images to save more data.
Opera Mini also has a Private Browsing mode to browse the web privately. It is an essential feature that Opera Mini does not lack. You can use this mode to browse without storing history, cache, and cookies.
Opera Mini is a fast and secure web browser for Android. The main feature that shines is its Data Saving capability. No other browsers can save data like Opera Mini. I will recommend this browser for those who have a slow or limited internet connection.
8. Ecosia Browser
Ecosia is best known as a search engine. But it also has a browser for iOS and Android. It is a different kind of browser. The purpose of Ecosia is different. Their approach is to plant trees all over the world. They spend 80% of their profit to plant trees.
As a search engine, Ecosia makes money by placing ads on your search result page like Google. If you look at the browser itself, it is based on Chromium and has every essential feature of a modern web browser.
Unfortunately, this browser does not have any sync option to use multiple devices. You also can not change the default search engine. Because, if you search through Ecosia, then every 45 searches will give them the money to plant a tree. If you use other search engines, then they will not be able to plant a tree. That’s why this browser does not have the option to change the default search engine.
Security and Privacy
Ecosia is a safe and secure web browser. According to Ecosia, they do not store user searches permanently or sell data. Every search is encrypted with a securely encrypted connection. They do not use any external tracking tools to track you. They also said in their privacy that they only collect a small amount of data to improve their services. You can turn off this also by enabling the Do Not Track feature from the settings. While Google is collecting a humongous amount of data, I don’t think that obtaining a small amount of data is worth wrong.
Ecosia and Microsoft
Ecosia uses Microsoft’s Bing to show results on its result page. This misleads people by saying that Ecosia is unsafe. I haven’t found any report or valid article that proves Ecosia is fake or a scam.
Do I recommend this browser? Yes! Not because I like this browser or search engine, but it helps the world. Trees are must to maintain the ecosystem. I believe that technology should be used for good. If you use this browser, your searches will help the world and our ecosystem.
A web browser is the most used app on an Android smartphone. There is a lot of web browser available on the market that people are using. But not all of these browsers can fulfill every important thing. Like the UC Browser, it is a fast web browser but not a secure web browser. In November 2017, UC Browser was temporarily unavailable from Google Play because of sending personal data. Later on, UC Browse became available on Google Play.
I have chosen the best top browsers for Android. These browsers cover all the features and can do everything that a modern browser can do. You can try each and every browser and choose the best for you.
Which web browser you use the most? Is it still Google Chrome or something else? Let us know in the comment section below. We would love to know about t.
